Eon: Dragoneye Reborn

Hey everyone! This isn't on a book club day, but I think this book deserves sharing. I read it a while back, but really enjoyed it.

The book is Eon: Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman. It's a pretty long one, 531 pages. There is also a sequel that came out recently, called Eona. I have yet to read the sequel, but it sounds amazing.

Eon has been studying the ancient art of Dragon Magic for four years, hoping he'll be able to apprentice to one of the twelve energy dragons of good fortune. But he also has a dark secret. He is actually Eona, a sixteen-year-old girl who has been living a dangerous lie for the chance to become a Dragoneye, the human link to an energy dragon's power. It is forbidden for females to practice the Dragon Magic and, if discovered, Eon faces a terrible death. After a dazzling sword ceremony, Eon's affinity with the twelve dragons catapults him into the treacherous world of the Imperial court where he makes a powerful enemy, Lord Ido. As tension builds and Eon's desperate lie comes to light, disaster builds in another part of the country. The lords of the Imperial Court say that only Eon can stop the tornado. As you keep reading, the secret will come to light for you to see.

One warning though-this is a challenging read. Not only is it long, but very complicated. It is also a 15+ suggestion, but if you have read mature books before, you should be fine.

Yours,
Nora

The Mysterious Benedict Society is about several kids and their quest to stop the most evil person of all time. The story is split up into three action packed books and even though they look huge it is about the best action book I've ever read. Oh and I can't forget about the surprises that tend to happen along the way.

Eldest

Eldest
by Nathan

The book I read was Eldest by Christopher Paolini. All four books in the series have come out. There is no known movie date for Eldest.

The main characters are Eragon,  King Galbatorix, Rohan, Horst, Nasuada, Queen Islanzadi, Hrothgar, Angela, a herbalist, Oromis, Arya an elf, Saphira, and Orik. (spoiler alert) The plot is that the leader of the varden dies and Nasuada Is elected the leader. Eragon is forced to continue his training in Ellesmera with another dragon rider. While Eragon is in Ellesmera, He was taught by Oromis and his dragon Glaedr about being a rider. Meanwhile, Rohan is struggling with some Ra’zac and gets all of his town to follow him to join the Varden where they have some epic battle scenes along the way. If you want to know the rest you should read the book.

In this action/adventure there is violence, evil, dragons. Elves, Dwarfs, battle, and magic. This book has action because there is a lot of battles but most of them are short. There is adventure because Eragon rides his dragon a lot and travels all over the place and gets to have the adventure of an extended lifetime. Anyone who rides a dragon gets a longer life.

The dialect in this book is not old fashioned nor futuristic, but the dialect is the same dialect as you and I speak. The vocabulary has very bizarre names because who names someone Galbatorix? How about Durza, Solembum, Arya, or even Brom. There is also the made up Ancient Language for the elves and the Dwarf language for the Dwarfs.

There are flashbacks and plot twists in this book. An example,of a flashback was when Eragon is fighting in Ellesmera, he keeps having flashbacks to the Battle in Tronjheim. An example of a plot twist was when Murtagh turned out to be a rider and attacked Eragon.

I would really recommend this book to you if you like action, magic and adventure. The plot twists were spaced evenly throughout the book which made the book more interesting because it kept me wanting to read more. Eldest had plenty of magic spells to keep the book intriguing.  Also It was cool because in order to summon magic they had to speak this ancient language.

Eragon

Eragon
by Nathan

The book I read was Eragon by Christopher Paolini.  All four books in the series have come out. The movie came out in 2006.

The main characters are Eragon,  King Galbatorix, Durza, the shade, Solembum, a werecat, Brom, Murtagh,  Ajihad, Arya an elf, Saphira, Orik, and The Twins. Eragon finds a Dragon egg and tries to get rid of it but instead it hatches and they bond together. He names her Saphira after a dragon he heard about from Brom. Eragon, Saphira and Brom escaped after the Ra’zac attacked to get the egg. This starts of a amazing adventure where the three cross the whole map and eventually reach the Beor mountains on the other side of the map. Along the way they get are wanted by the Empire ruled by the Evil King Galbatorix, Brom dies, Murtagh joins them, and Eragon gets captured. If you want to know the rest you should read the book.

In this action/adventure there is violence, evil, dragons. Elves, Dwarfs, battle, and magic. This book has action because there is a lot of battles but most of them are short. There is Adventure because Eragon rides his dragon a lot and travels all over the place and gets to have the adventure of a extended life time. Anyone who rides a dragon gets a longer life.

The dialect in this book is not old fashioned nor futuristic, but the dialect is the same dialect as you and I speak. The vocabulary was just names because who names someone Galbatorix? How about Durza, Solembum, Arya, or evan Brom.

There are flashbacks and plot twists in this book. An example of a flashback was when Eragon remembered the Dragon Riders. An example of a plot twist was when the Ra’zac sneak attacked Eragon in Dras Leona.

I would really recommend this book to you if you like action, magic and adventure. The plot twists were spaced evenly throughout the book which made the book more interesting because it kept me wanting to read more. Eragon had plenty of action to keep the book suspenseful.  Also It was cool because in order to summon magic they had to speak this ancient language.

Insurgent

Insurgent
by Nathan

The book I read was Insurgent by Veronica Roth.  She’s also published Divergent and is working on a third book. The third book is projected to come out in 2013. The movie “Divergent” will come out on March 21, 2014 (IMDb).

The main characters are Beatrice "Tris" Prior and Caleb Prior who are both 16 years old and are brother and sister.  Other characters in this story are Tobias Eaton/ Four and Eric who are 18 years old and Christina, Peter,  Marcus Eaton, Jeanie, Uriah, and Tori who are all 16 years old. There are five factions in this story.  A faction is a city devoted to a certain character trait. These factions are: Candor, the honest,  Erudite, the intelligent, Amity, the peaceful, Dauntless, the brave, and Abnegation, the selfless.  The faction, Abnegation, was destroyed by the Erudite in “Divergent” and now the Dauntless are split into half good and half bad. The good are at the Candor headquarters and the bad are located at the Erudite headquarters. The bad Dauntless attacked Candor with the mind control serums. After that, the good Dauntless returned to their own headquarters.

In this action/romance novel there is violence, technology, deceit plus the action and romance. This book has action because the good Dauntless fight the bad Dauntless throughout the book. In this story there is romance because there is kissing between Tris and Tobias. Also Uriah and Marlene love each other but Marlene dies while being controlled by the mind controlling serum. Examples of technology in this story would be the serum, the serum injecting gun, the solar panels, and the surveillance.

The dialect in this book is not old fashioned nor futuristic, but the dialect is the same dialect as you and I speak. I could say the vocabulary was just names but that would be false because these are common names. Though Jeanie is an uncommon name, the rest of the names in this story are not. The unusual vocabulary in the story was the names of the factions such as Candor, Erudite, Amity, Dauntless, and Abnegation because those are odd names.

There are flashbacks and plot twists in this book. An example of a flashback was when Tris would not shoot a gun because she was still mourning over Will, her boyfriend. An example of plot twists was when the good Dauntless moved to the Dauntless Headquarters, the Erudite activated the mind control serum, and attempted to kill three of the good Dauntless.

I would really recommend this book to you if you like action, romance, and deceit. The plot twists were spaced evenly throughout the book which made the book more interesting because it kept me wanting to read more. Insurgent had plenty of action to keep the book suspenseful. This book added the Factionless, who are people who were forced out of a Faction, as a component in the battle between the the good and the bad Dauntless.

Divergent

The book I read was “Divergent” by Veronica Roth.  She has also published Insurgent and is working on a third book. The third book is projected to come out in 2013. The movie on Divergent will come out on 21 March 2014 (IMDb).

The main characters are Beatrice "Tris" Prior(16), Caleb Prior(16)( Beatrice and Caleb are brother and sister), Tobias Eaton/ Four(18), Christina(16), Peter(16), Will(16), Marcus Eaton, Al(16), Jeanie, Eric(18), and Tori. The story is where Beatrice Prior grows up in the faction, Abnegation, with Caleb Prior.  At the age of 16, kids choose which faction they will stay in the rest of their life. There are five factions ( a city devoted to a certain character trait) which are Candor (the honest),  Erudite (the intelligent), Amity (the peaceful), Dauntless (the brave), and Abnegation (the selfless). Caleb chooses Erudite and Beatrice chooses Dauntless where she changes her name to “Tris”. Tris got Divergent on a simulation test (the test was right before the choosing ceremony) which means she has an aptitude for more than one faction. This is bad because some evil leaders in Dauntless are executing Divergent in secrecy.

In this action/romance novel there is action, romance, violence, technology, and deceit. This book has action because while Tris is in Dauntless, she has to go through violence ( For example, there was a ton of shooting) and deceit. This book has some romance because there is kissing between Tris and Tobias, her teacher. Also Christina and Will are in love but unfortunately that relationship doesn’t last until the end of the book because Will dies.

The dialect in this book is not old fashioned nor futuristic, but the dialect is the same dialect as you and I speak. I could say the vocabulary was just names but that would be false because these are common names. Though Jeanie  is an uncommon name the rest are not. The main vocabulary is just the Candor,  Erudite, Amity, Dauntless, and Abnegation because those are odd words.

There are flashbacks, foreshadowing, and plot twists in this book. An example of flashbacks was when, at the end, Tris mourns over her parents who died during the  Erudite raid of  Abnegation. An example of foreshadowing was when the Dauntless were playing paintball capture the flag. Tris strategies and wins because she anticipated what the other team would do(she knew most Dauntless would charge so she avoided them and stole their flag). An example of plot twists was on the initiation ceremony day Eric, a leader, gave everyone these shots that control your brain and that night, disaster struck( the shots included these mind controlling devices but he said they were only trackers).

I would really recommend this book to you if you like action, romance, and deceit. I was disappointed because the cover suggests magic but the there is no magic at all. The plot twists were spaced evenly through the book and it made the book more interesting because it kept me wanting to read more. Divergent had more than enough action to keep the book suspenseful.

Ruined

Pathfinder

Pathfinder
By Nathan

The book I read was the “Pathfinder” by Orson Scott Card. Book 1 of the
Pathfinder Trilogy was published in 2010 and the sequel, “The Ruins”,
will be published October 30, 2012.

The main characters, in this book, are Rigg Sessamekesh, The
Wandering Man, Umbo, Loaf, Leaky, Param Sissaminka, Hagia
Sessamin, General Haddamander Citizen, Olivenko, and Ram Odin. The
story takes place on another planet called Garden, which is 11,000 light
years from Earth. There are 2 main characters on this planet. These 2
characters, Rigg Sessamekesh (a prince) and Umbo, must learn how to
use their time changing powers. They try to use these powers to get
through a machine created invisible mind wall to escape from an evil
general who wants to be the heir to the throne and get rid of the prince
and his sister.

In this science fiction/fantasy novel there is action, time related
abilities/powers, dangerous secrets, romance, and treachery. This
book is science fiction because it has time travel between the present
and the past. It also is a fantasy book because some of the characters
have magical powers.

The dialect in this book is not old fashioned nor futuristic, but the
dialect is the same dialect as you and I speak. There wasn’t much
figurative language in this story. There was some personification, for
example, some of the machines in the story, can talk to humans. Some
of the vocabulary used in this story was made up names such as Param
Sissaminka and cities such as “0”. Isn’t the names of Sessamekesh or
Hagia or Leaky a bit unusual?

There wasn’t any foreshadowing in this book, but there was
flashbacks and plot twists. An example of a flashback was when Rigg
kept on remembering how the robot who pretended to be his father,
died. An example of a plot twist was when Rigg’s own mother betrayed
him. The dialogue in the book goes back and forth between the
different languages of different cultures. This book dealt with the past,
present, and future.

I would really recommend this book to you if you like action,
magic, and treachery. The plot twists throughout this book were
spaced evenly through the book and it made the book more interesting
because it kept me wanting to read more. Pathfinder had just enough
action to keep the book suspenseful.

Prodigy

The new book by Marie Lu, Prodigy is out now! The first book we read in the club was Legend, a dystopian story about June Iparis, a perfect girl in the Republic and how she meets Day, an thief waging a war against the Republic.

The new book, Prodigy, is summarized as follows.

June and Day arrive in Vegas just as the unthinkable happens: the Elector Primo dies, and his son Anden takes his place. With the Republic edging closer to chaos, the two join a group of Patriot rebels eager to help Day rescue his brother and offer passage to the Colonies. They have only one request—June and Day must assassinate the new Elector.

It’s their chance to change the nation, to give voice to a people silenced for too long.

But as June realizes this Elector is nothing like his father, she’s haunted by the choice ahead. What if Anden is a new beginning? What if revolution must be more than loss and vengeance, anger and blood—what if the Patriots are wrong?
